Project description
De Tuimelaar primary school is situated in the densely built up centre of De Panne. The school was established a century ago as a lay school by the Panne institute. It is believed that this foundation erected the two oldest school buildings in yellow brick, in Verenigingstraat and in Brouwersstaat, which is where the primary school classes are currently accommodated. In the grounds there are still two single-storey, freestanding pavilions, one of which houses a gym and the other the kindergarten classes. The playground, once a sand flat, is completely paved today and is bordered at the rear by a redbrick building with cast-iron columns which accommodates the canteen and kitchen. The school is struggling with falling pupil numbers and the school site is in the process of being reassessed. After the demolition or removal of the obsolete or unusable buildings, a new 890 m² structure can be built and/or refurbished. It makes sense to examine how the budget can best be invested in a quality renovation of this primary school.
