Project description
In the interests of public safety, Lommel town council in association with the Limburg provincial authorities is making a plot of land available for the establishment of the 'Dieren onder Dak' animal home for the North Limburg region. The plot is on the rim of the Maatheide industrial estate, adjacent to the 'Blekerheide' (natural area conforming to the Neerpelt-Bree regional plan). The aim of the project is to provide a haven for stray cats and dogs in accordance with the most recent principles of animal welfare. The industrial environment and the specific nature of the home are an ideal combination for the transformation of functionality and sustainability into an architecturally successful project. This brief is an exceptional assignment in which a social objective is converted into a building and grounds with the main purpose of receiving and caring for animals, but which also has an educational aim. So we are looking for a team that has a feeling for animals and also has the necessary multidisciplinary knowhow.
