Project description
The Sint-Jozef Clinic in Pittem is a specialised and innovative open psychiatric clinic with places for 197 patients.
The clinic is in the grounds of a late 19th-century mansion in a restful rural environment. In recent decades the
original buildings have been substantially extended and renovated to create a modern psychiatric clinic. The
original mansion and its grounds have as far as possible been preserved.
The 12 ha of grounds were recently expanded to 17 ha. After a landscape study was carried out, a local
development plan for the entire site was submitted for approval. When it has been finally approved, the next
stage is to make use of the land purchased and make several adjustments to the existing site. This includes the
present brief, which comprises four parts: the reorganisation of the landscape at the entrance to the site via
Boterstraat; the creation of several outdoor sports fields, including a flat grassy area, a paved multipurpose field,
a jogging circuit and several petanque pitches; the layout and extension of the park between the original avenue
and Boterstraat around the new car park; the building of a multipurpose meeting and conference room with a
maximum capacity of 300 in the existing mansion garden, plus therapeutic work rooms and a clear link between
the building and the clinic and car park.
Some of this work forms part of a subsidy application to the VIPA.
Every aspect of this brief is to be shaped into one single landscape entity. As far as the meeting and conference
room is concerned, the necessary attention should be paid to low energy and comfortable indoor climate
conditions and to the running costs.
