The Open Call has been a certainty within the activities of the Flemish Master Builder Team since 2000. Since then, the Open Call has upgraded the Flemish architectural landscape. Over the years, this tool has evolved along with social trends, sometimes unnoticed. Various factors - changed legal frameworks, the economic context, the demand for more citizen participation, new insights into circular construction, and so on - created the need to refocus the procedure.

However, the principles and objectives of the Open Call remain unchanged. With the Open Call we still want to create opportunities for high-quality designs for specific public assignments, while at the same time helping to develop a lively architectural culture in Flanders. The new procedure should support this even better by including low participation criteria, a focus on design capabilities in the selection fase, a well thought-out process and concise tenders.

Publication of the Open Call will henceforth take place in March and in October (instead of June and January). The next, 48th edition will thus arrive in October 2024. The changes to the procedure will be communicated by then.
